GTO has found great success building solid saltwater coastal series boats. If it were me I would plan a visit to them and take a tour and ask a lot of questions. It may prove to be a great learning experience and will also help to serve as a price point to evaluate if your labor and effort are worth the savings over a factory built purchase.

Just a thought

I prefer 1/4 inch aluminum on bottom and 3/8 inch poly riveted to it.

Hitting rough salt water across a large bay feels very solid and much
more comfortable than light weight hulls I have been in.

For salt water running the extra weight of the 1/4 in. bottom is worth it.
Like the time this summer when we ran over a submerged refrigerator
in East Bay at night. Hurricanes can move some really heavy stuff to the
middle of the marsh.

Thanks for the replies swamphunter and ringneck.I want to build my own not buy one, i have owned at least 10 airboats built by someone else.I just want the satisfaction of building it and i agree gto builds a nice boat.I do need to go visit their new place, last time i went they were still in the barn north of ocala.I agree with the thickness but i am also powering it with a small angle valve 200 so i need to watch the weight.I may need to go to a 12' hull.I really am trying to find out what grade and thickness i need.It needs too be weldable and saltwater resistant.I also need information on suppliers.I saw a old post where people were trying to find new suppliers but the post played out without new info on suppliers.I want to thank you for your responses and slide safe. Kenny.

GTO bottoms are .190 on the saltwater boats. Sides are .125 I have 3/8" UHMW poly on mine. I pound it pretty hard in the gulf. Holds up well.
