High school airboat build III
High school airboat build III
Well last year I didn't get this posted up because of Photo Bucket marking up all our photos so I thought I would try a different method.
The fall of 2018 I had a senior student come into class and said," when do we start building you know that I am your senior welder this year and I want to weld up the hull my self". I told him we weren't building one this year. Well Ty talked me into it. I got two sheets of aluminum and called Jake Tupper from Gale Marine in Galesville, Wisconsin. He said he could bend up our metal and the next week we were making Airboat III. I hope this is going to work. If it does it will probably take me a few days to get pictures in.We powered this build with a ej 2.5 165HP Subaru engine and a Eggenfellner generation 3 gear box 2.10:1 Ratio. We put a 70 Sensenich NGH prop on it, which Sensenich gave us a great deal on.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Your post are some of my favorites, I like seeing kids get their hands dirty and learn skills that will follow them through their life. Please keep up the great work.

Great to see another build thread started. Always look forward to the updates. What you are doing with the students is something you and they can be proud of.

Re: High school airboat build III
Not your fault CWAIS. That's been a problem with the program that runs this forum ever since cameras became a part of mobile devices.
One workaround, which is a PITA, is to open the images on a regular old fashion Windows PC with the Paint program and do nothing more than save it before uploading it as an attachment.
Another workaround is to upload pics to your gallery here on SA, then inserting them into your post using the method described here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6686
The one problem with the latter method is how to figure out how to copy the image url (internet address) so you can insert it into the post. How to copy the image internet address changes from browser to browser or mobile to mobile.
Ain't got the internet connection I need right now, but I'll get the images in this thread rotated tomorrow. Afterwards, I'll rotate them as I see them so don't let that stop you from posting them.
Always appreciate you and your students doing this.
Rick

Whats the story behind the subaru? Looks like it might have spent some time in the air.
As far as the pictures, they are beautiful.

That's awesome! I wish we had this when I was in school. They turned our auto shop class into technology, which is great, but I would have done both.

How much to rent that crew?
. Cant wait to see the progress on the new boat. IMGUR works very well for this site. Easy and free. If you want to try it call me and I'll walk you thru it.

Have you had to run a trim tab on any of those boats?

I think it was out of a RV-7. The owner could not get it to run. When we went through the engine we found two sensor wires had broke off. Fuel injection Makes this engine pop right over.
We talked to Brian at IWire.com and he built us a wiring harness. Thanks Brian
