41 fires in TX and counting...

Post by rost495 »

How do I know? Instead of packing for AK, we woke up Sunday to start fighting a 2000 plus acre one here that got 8 or so confirmed houses and I was up all night and need sleep bad... started about less than 400 yards from our house across the fence and the winds were mostly favorable. Power line started the fire.... my boss lost his tractor, barn, hay, etc... but his farm house they saved barely....

I've never fought a brush fire so hard that kept trying to run crosswise to a 40 mph north wind.

Stay safe out there folks!!! We are out of here Wed afternoon for AK, I hope its calmed by then enough to get to the airport(major highways closed right now) and that we can leave without having to worry.

but its out of my hands, I"ve plowed firebreaks and put out fire with shovels all night long last night and rigged a pressure tank at lunch today and went back into the neighbors and doused hot spots by noon...

Never seen a serious dozer from the forest service like yesterday.. rolled up into our private drive( we are half a mile off the road...) unloaded and headed straight to the smoke, right through our property fence full speed ahead. Sic Em boys.. hella job there.

I'm beat....

I've flown into SeaTac, but that was many moons ago. The airplanes were still made outa' wood and fabric back then, and the navigation system was called Omni. :)

We'll pray for rain for y'all anyhow ....... somethin's got to break loose before long.

Boy do we need some rain!
Looks like most folks are accounted for , one close river family (Misty) did loose her Dad's house but sounds like everyone got out. The BRAB is on standby if you need us , just say the word.
BRAB Pres Rusty is standing guard on the river , no power....lost some grass and some out bldgs..
These Firefighters in Texas have really had a tough time this year .
