Who Installs Polymer In Texas?

Postby FlatsFisher » Sat Feb 23, 2013 2:26 pm

I want to start by saying thank you...I've been looking at this site for months, and you have already been tons of help. I'm working with a budget, and purchased a POS to waste money on. :banghead:

It's running now & I need to start on the hull...it's a small 13'6" fiberglass boat, and I want to have some glass work done & have a polymer bottom installed. I live in South Texas, Corpus Christi, & don't have a clue where to have this done. Any ideas?

Again thank you for the help.

Thank you...I wasn't wanting to drive that far, but I guess there's not many choices.

Glass shop for the repair and airboat shop for poly.
. American airboats in Orange Texas for poly or Lone Star Boat works.

Would you ever consider Wetlander, Steelflex, or Frog Spit? I don't really think the boat will see "true" dry ground, I will be hunting around Coastal Marsh and theres not much oyster or rock where I hunt. My biggest concern is the low tides we get with North winds in the winter. There are places that can dry up pretty quick.

Poly only way to go. North winds and reef exposed everywhere. Yesterday I ran around several refuge islands and had to throttle down to keep from raping my poly up, if you don't have it you will destroy your hull.. JMO Robert.

You might give Coastal Bend Airboat a call. I do not know much about them they might be able to help you. They are in Rockport Much closer to you.
Their number is 361-557-1048... hope that helps. Take care Mitch

You say that you are on a budget? Do it youself. Really not that hard. All you need is a few friends and a place to do it.

It don't look like it would be very hard, but when it comes to my safety I would rather spend the extra. I really don't know enough about it be cutting the polymer & drilling holes in my boat. If someone has experience with installation I will gladly pay them and help, but I don't see me trying to do it with my buddy's. Good idea, but I know my limits. Thank you

I would wait and do it in the summer. The more heat you can get on the poly it will conform to the hull better. I don't bolt mine on though, I rivot it on. IMO it works better and is much easier to repair if it should break loose. But if you want poly, gotta drill some holes. Always start in the center and wory your way out. Just my .02
