Anahauc crab trap cleanup Feb. 21

Post by myronja »

It’s that time again, time to spend a beautiful Texas winter day on the bay collecting abandoned crab traps. The crabbing closure will be February 20-March 1. If the weather cooperates February 21 will be the target day for our consolidated effort. From an email i got just a heads up

The Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) needs some airboat help staging out of Ft. Anahuac Park like the last few years. I normally help with this and it is always a good time. I currently have two boats torn apart with engines removed, so I am going to need some folks to help take up my slack. :thumbleft:

Please let me know in this thread, who is planning on supporting. I let them know that I would spread the word and try to rustle some support. They like to get an idea of how many boats they may have helping, to plan volunteer support at the dock.

Any help is appreciated and during last few years rewarded with a good gumbo lunch and some door prize giveaways!

Thanks Again!

Still looking for some help if anybody is free. I think they have the Chambers County Airboats and the Parks and Wildlife Airboat that helped last year, but so far that is it.

I will most likely be tied up with the spacewalk this weekend, so any help taking up my slack is much appreciated.

Thanks,
sh

Where is this at? Is the water protected? I'm in bridge city now but ride may postpone due to weather/wind

If its a south wind not at all but we usually ride the bank from fort anahuac park to the hl&p spillway which is shallow so its not that bad. Its being held at fort anahuac park thats where i will be putting at also.

2 sheriff 1 u.s.fisheries and me for airboats. 2 game warden outboards and i think 2 other boats it was very rough and white cappping and water was very high from south wind the marsh was flooded all the way back up to the camp houses no dry land at all. I rode to spillway everything that we got was in bulkhead cove by seperator across from boat ramp.

Good job guys! We managed 50 traps in about 4 hours at Hynes bay.
