My exhaust

Post by Larry » Tue Apr 04, 2006 3:51 pm

Well i finally finished up the exhaust system for my new boat, just need to get it all jet-hot coated now. It uses 3" 304 stainless tubing and mandrel bends with triple braided flex couplers and magnaflow 14" long 4" diameter body stainless mufflers with homemade angled transom dumps. I am hoping it works out well, it should quiet things up a bit.

Larry,
It looks good. Are you going to support the system
with some sort of hanger or is the transom and engine
enough to do the job? I am trying to retrofit mufflers
into my boat and just wondering.
Sweet though I'll bet it sounds good when it's done.

Thanks for the comments guys. Dblj, I am gonna put in a support off of the stand where the 90 elbows are for some support. The muffler sould be supported pretty well from the transom side and the brace should tie it up. Basket, it is all welded together except where the pipe slips over the headers and where the mufflers slip on, i'm gonna have some good band clamps to go on there.

Larry,

I'm liking that idea too! Can be taken apart easily to work on the engine

Gonna have it done by May 20th? (quiet airboat competition). It would be a good entry as far as I'm concerned!

Where'd you get the materials, specifically the flex couplers? What kinda price?

I can get them through NAPA, but they're real expensive.....

I got the couplers and mandrel bends off of E-bay from a company called Verocious Motorsports, http://stores.ebay.com/Verocious-Motors ... esstQQtZkm. The parts definatly aren't cheap, paid $347.00 for the stainless pipe and couplers and $160.00 for the magnaflows. I just wanted to build the exhaust system without using any flexpipe and to make it as clean looking as possible.

Looks like you've succeeded in that Larry!

Is that DOM tubing for your rigging?

Red, yes all the tubing in my rigging is seamless dom pipe. I am using 7/8 x .083 on the stand with 3/4 x .063 on the seat structure, rudder supports and cage hoops with 1/2 x .063 for the rest of the cage. It is the first cage I have built without using conduit. Hoping to have it finished soon so I can get it to the powdercoaters.
