that short lil jaunt you call from Port Everglades to Bimini has lots of -----things that come up---- anytime of the year.Seen flat calm go to a miserable 10ft in less then 10 miles. It's a crapshoot whenever you make that crossing.

Get a North Current, and a N Wind working against each other over the HILLS on the ocean floor and your in deep shiat!

what you dont see in the picture is that he road the slick from a larger boat that had a makeshift ramp that he could ride up if things got bad

I beliveve if it where me id replan that trip and do it in the middle of summer. Personally I wouldn't do it at all on a airboat of any kind but that's just me... I've seen how that stretch of water can be clam one minute and 10min later you will be busting though 8-10footers and having to fight the currents of the Gulf Stream. I have made that crossing before and make it in a hour and go to come back and it take 5-6hours on a 36ft boat. It is nothing to play with! But if you do I would make sure my boat insurance is paid up  good luck !

Think about how much fun it would be to ride the flats on the south end of Bimini giging lobster.

Even IF anyone did it before him or after him, I'm pretty sure Wayne's the only person who did it in a 12ft glades boat! Most of us with grass boats don't even like crossing canals

The guy who made the trip last week is a SeaTow Capt. From Key Largo.
He purchased a boat from my brother, drove it for less than an hour here at Mack's Faish Camp in 3B.
I told him he was nutz, but he insisted he was crazy and just needed the boat there asap. He also said he was not scared or even concerned about the crossing.
If any of y'all know my brother Keith, you know he's got brass balls and I this guy he sold the boat to was wrapped about the same.
The crossing went well all in all, I will get the details and post here.

This boat was a Swait built 22x9 barge , with stainless rigging, a BBC, CH3, 5 - 8' bench seats: it burned 60+ gallons

NO GOPRO, NO CHASE BOAT, NO EPIRB, NO PASSENGER,
Just one crazy sum Btch :drunken:

ran out of gas 9 miles short and his reserve container had a few holes beat thru it from the jarring. He got there safe and sound, just a lil wet from the spray and shrunken pride from the fuel issue.
I tried to tell him how big a deal it was but he didn't care for recognition, just the thrill of doing it.

next time you r in Bimini, look for an airboat tour in the bay.

There was 2 of them on the boat, neither too bright!, they left at 1 am not sure what time they got there. Ran out of fuel 9 miles from Bimini, called someone to tow them the rest of the way. Said they hit one big wave that almost sunk them.
