turned boat over. now what?

ok so I finally did it. turned my boat over in 6 feet of water, 0360 lycoming. got it up and out. drained carb, drained oil (water in case), pulled bottom plugs (some water in right side bottom plugs), replaced oil with fresh oil, got fresh fuel to carb, turned motor over with plugs out and blew remaining water out. put plugs back in, turned motor over more then turned over with mags, no fire, 50#'s oil pressure. kept trying but got no fire. I changed oil again, turned it over more to move the oil around case and now she sits. will try again in the morning.

any suggestions are appreciated. i'm thinking its just mags at this point. question is, how can a man drain a mag or does a man just let said mag sit and dry out?

Mags need cleaning and drying out!

I take mine off and put them in the oven at low heat for a few hours.

I know nothing about AC motors, but a wet distributer can be dried out in the field by using WD-40,,,

That stands for Water Displacement, and it was the 40th recipe,,,

It was originally designed for the Gov-ment,,,

It has worked for me many times,,,

Take plug wire cap off and remove points cover. Heat mags up with blow drier. Clean points and reassemble. Should fire. Don't be afraid to get em hot with hair drier.

Considering my cooking skills (I can burn anything) putting the mags with those plastic gears in the oven scares me , but I have had good success using the hair dryer method before

Did the same thing over the 4th of july weekend not sure where you did this or if your motor was running as it went down but i can say mine was full of sand could not have got it all out by flushing the motor it was tore down and cleaned out.. good luck hope it works out for you..

Depending on the extra contents of the water ,sand , silt, fish..... Or if you rolled it over in perfectly clear water. The magnetos need to be disassembled and cleaned. The bearings do not like rust pits and no matter how well you dry the assembled magnetos damage will occur . The overhaul manual for the magnetos is on this site in the manuals section of aircraft. For the longevity of your engine I would suggest complete tear down. In our area if you sink it it is time to tear it apart , due to the amount of sand in our water. Scoop a glass full of water from where you airboat, let it settle out. See what is in the bottom of the glass? It is in your engine. I would have 1/4 inch of sand in my glass if I did that. Just my opinion tear the whole thing down.

not looking forward to a tear down, hopefully the sand isn't an issue. that sounds bad

Like i said mine was full of sand no way to flush.. i have to much $ in it to get 10 or so hours after sinking it cause of sand.
