Russian airboat

Post by Hammer00 »

This popped into my buddies work yesterday here in Sarasota. He was told the Russians designed it to pick up astronauts when they fall into the ocean  Sounds funny to me but its still pretty neat. Others on here might know more, feel free to share.

Hope that cosmonaut don't back his head at splashdown.

He would play hell trying to climb back into that
thing while it's bobbing like a cork in open water !

And hey . . . there is that power steering setup someone was asking about earlier. :)

That thing would need power steering. The owner told my buddy it runs 170mph.

Generally the Russians dont plash them down in deep water like we do. They parachute into a softer landing in a very marshy area like our Tundra. It might be the truth about them using these to recover them, but last I think I remember hearing is they pick them up with a big Heavy Lift Specially Equipped HIND Helicopter. Least I think I remember that anyway.

We had a lot of fun rebuilding them back in 2003.
Rob wanted to show off his fine paint job.
