Alright... On my second fuel pump after first one stopped. Then new one stopped and I was way out there. Decided to take it apart that time. Pulled parts out out back together then it worked. I put original fuel pump back in boat because at that point figured I could fix it too if needed. On way out today motor cuts off no fuel and fuel pump quiet again. Seriously?? So I take the original one apart and it full of black crap which I have a photo of and I had my gopro today so have a good video of it being taken apart as well. But I want to know what this cramp that keeps blocking the screen and stopping the fuel pump from working. New tank, new hoses, new pumps etc have no idea where all this crap is coming from. Hamant built the tank I wouldn't think it came with all this stuff inside new but that's about my only guess right now since there is shiny aluminum slivers in there mixed in with the black stuff. Ran magnet over it and it's not sticking.
Looks like the insides from your fuel hose. Depending on the type of fuel hose your using this great gas we buy eats it up. You should be using only type A USCG approved fuel hose. Cost a little more but it is better.
So avgas eats regular fuel hose up? Who woulda thunk.... That's why I ask you smart fellas . I'm going to take a photo of my hose now because if that crap is upstream then it's downstream too. Ack!
That's not even funny. It says not for fuel injection system right on the fuel hose (I never actually read it) I can only assume that if it matters what I use it for then.... Dammit man. Well I hope that's it I'll replace it all and my problem gone forever.
I'll buy gold plated if I have to this has to be the cheapest part of the whole boat and it's the only thing I've had problems with I still can't believe fuel hose just doesn't work cause it's cheap. They shouldn't even sell it. Where can I get the best type I need about 8 feet. -- shaking head
hog I got mine from sonny's in Melbourne, been on the boat 3 years now no problems knock on wood, but I have a filter in front of the pump and after the pump to keep this crap ethonal gas cleaner!!!!!
You go to the parts store and ask for 8' of fuel hose. You would expect 8' of fuel hose.... Not fuel vapor hose that is not for use in fuel injected systems.
Def fuel line breaking down we see it in vst's of outboards all time (vst is where the electric fuel pump is on fuel injected engines). Below deck fuel line (type a) will work well its double walled and can handle the uv as well. Its fairly cheap per foot we sell it i think for under 3 bucks a foot . On a side note at least the av gas helps with lubing the pump up . Fuel today is shit and it does not limit itself to ethanol we see the same issues with non ethanol fuels .
10/4 on that fuel hose. Next purchase needs to be a racor filter before fuel pump, they are rather pricey but well worth it. Not only will a good filter remove any of the solids that come through, but also has a clear bowl on the bottom so you can visually see if solids or water are present. I have been running that set up for 3+ years with a Fausett fuel pump and have never missed a beat.
X2 on the blue marine fuel line I've used it on 3 boats now with no issues,I bought some regular black fuel line for my 1st boat & that junk lasted bout 2mnths if that, boathouse on us1 or carp down here in grant carries it for bout 1.80ft
I've had the blue hose fail on 2 boats in the last year. It has a plastic lining in it that the ethanol eats through! The stuff was only on the boats for about 2 years!
Glad to see they found the issue... Sometimes that "GUY" behind the counter doesn't quite know exactly what you need it for, OR he just gave you something that had the word "FUEL" on it.. Change them hoses !! You should be just fine... I had my fuel pump stop 3 times in 45 minutes right when I built it.. When I went and wiggled the ground wire, it fired up again.. I have heard it so many times on here, if electrical, 98% of the time, its the ground!! LOL... Yours is the other 2%.....
Glad you got her figured out..

That blue fuel line was sposed to be the save all with liners collapsing etc .Its only a matter of time, right now its hard to find decent fuel line that isnt below deck even the new above deck stuff is showing signs of breaking down . 20 years in the marine industry as a mechanic ,the last 5-6 years have rewritten everything we knew about fuel lines degrading . Those of you running the blue stuff ,simple way to check is to squeeze the fuel line, if its pretty uniform and firm usually good. When the inner liner collapses it will be pretty squishy .In other words you would be able to pinch it in your fingers fairly easy . Stay away from the sierra grey fuel line , attwood fuel line assemblies that are grey , the get hard as a rock and brittle after some time in the sunlight.
Yep had same problem with my fuel pump shuttin down outta nowhere & bought a new 1,come to find out it was the switch in the panel had some corrosion on it,as far as the hose they say with that blue marpac ethanol resistant hose you should cut the end off bout an inch each time its removed & lube the barb when putting back on so not to damamage the liner & they claim that any non-ethanol fuel will not break it down
I have a draw straw that picks up 1" from the bottom. Fuel pump pulls fuel through a small inline filter and then pushes to a fuel filter/water separator. Then on to the carb. I change out all fuel hoses every year though. I'm particular like that.
