Oil cooler and lines
Oil cooler and lines
Any suggestions on where to get oil cooler and lines putting it in an o-470r
Re: Oil cooler and lines
Any hydraulic shop should be able to make them. Also I believe Napa auto parts can make them but I think they are a little more than most hydraulic shops.
Re: Oil cooler and lines

Re: Oil cooler and lines
allot of people get the transmission cooler from local auto parts store but if you find a think GPU cooler it will do better job but either will work

Re: Oil cooler and lines
This is what I have used on many different boats works well. And most every airboat shop stocks them.

Also just something to think about if you find a used one you don't know if it's been on a motor that's wore out and has had metal run through it or if it's been on a motor that has blown up before. That's one of the reasons I've never used a gpu cooler. Oil coolers aren't cheap but it's also the life of your motor. They can be flushed out. And probably be fine I'm just not going to do that on my engine. Oil cooler is cheap compared to a engine.

Go on the Hayden website and get the part # for the size you want, then go to Amazon and buy it. That's the cheapest I found. I then bought the fittings from NAPA, installed the cooler and measured for hoses. NAPA built the hoses as well. About $200 total.

Ecor industries in Melbourne off wickham Rd can make any lines needed usually while you wait if their not too busy & very reasonable

Re: Oil cooler and lines
Not really sure on size but I run what appears to be 1 of the Hayden's mentioned above..open that link above..mine is a 4cyl which is probably overkill on my boat but I see 6cyl motors running same 1 or even smaller..my temp always runs 180 unless I run it hard on the dry & then never above 190

there is no such thing as overkill when your talking about cooling your airboats motordiamondback0320 wrote:mine is a 4cyl which is probably overkill on my boat

Re: Oil cooler and lines
Those thin coolers (about 1" I think) the others are telling you to buy "new" will work ok, lots of people use them and they only run 10-15 degrees hotter when your pushing the boat hardAustin h wrote:Thank you. Any suggestions on how many layers the oil cooler should have? It's on an o470.

Re: Oil cooler and lines
Go to trade a plane web site and look up aircraft salvage yards call them and you can get one. Just make sure it is not from a failed engine. You want a serviceable one or get one and send it to pacific oil coolers and have them clean and flush it out

Re: Oil cooler and lines
I have a GPU oil cooler that would be overkill for your motor. I was going to put it on my 470-L but never got around to it. I'll make you a good deal on it if your interested.

Just wanted to throw in a little reminder you need to use large lines do not try small lines.
