St Johns No Wake

Postby jchovernut » Sat Nov 18, 2017 12:49 pm

With the water levels decreasing, the blanket ‘No Wake’ on the St Johns was rescinded 11/16. However, Seminole County enacted a ‘No Wake’ Executive Order on the St Johns from the East side of Lk Monroe to the South side of Lk Harney ‘for all to enjoy, & to protect property.’ I’m wondering if this is still a temporary measure until the water level drops further, or does Seminole County plan on ‘No-Waking’ that part of the river permanently!!?? Anyone have any idea??

Here’s the press release from seminolecountyfl.gov

No Wake Zone Enacted for Portions of St. Johns River

Posted on: 11/17/2017 2:07:32 PM

SEMINOLE COUNTY, FL (NOVEMBER 17, 2017)- Seminole County enacted a new Executive Order declaring a No Wake Zone from the east side of Lake Monroe to the south side of Lake Harney at State Road 46, including all of Lake Jesup, effective 12:00pm, today, Friday, November 17, 2017.

The Executive Order establishing a No Wake Zone for the entire St. Johns River waterway was lifted yesterday, meaning other areas of the River are not currently under a No Wake Zone restriction.

All efforts are being made to allow residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy the waterways while also protecting property along the river. Nighttime boating is allowed; safe boating practices should be adhered to, as some docks may not be visible, bridges are much closer to water lines, islands and sandbars are just below water level, and some debris may not be visible due to high water levels.

Seminole County opened the Lake Jesup Park's boat ramp today. The C.S. Lee boat ramp was opened earlier this week. All other County boat ramps remain closed due to flooding.

Here’s the reply I got from Seminole County:

Temporary— the concern is over docks still under water that boaters may not see. Also, some backyards are still under water and wake would push water further up on the yards.
