control issues
control issues
I just finished a new boat and it seems that the prop wash is trying to take the stick out of my hand, the rudders are from Alumitec and the leading edge of the rudders are 7 in. away from the trailing edge of the prop, any suggestions? rcm

Re: control issues
You need a trim tab at rear of rudder to compensate, if rudder push left, bend tab left till they track neutral vise versa.
I never finish anyth,,,.
Re: control issues
It seems like the rudders want to pull left and right, I`ll try a tab.

Re: control issues
Have you checked your rudders leading and trailing edge distance apart when set straight forward, by this i mean (for lack of a better term) toe in and toe out?
I have experienced this just recently with a boat when the leading edge spacing was more than the rear (toed out) the boat seemed to dive right or left when not held straight , and his rudder to prop spacing was kinda close too, i shoot for about 10" but thats just me , not saying yours is too close just giving an example

I`ve got about 1/4 in. toe in on the leading edge of the rudders.

Not knowing your exact set-up, I would guess your problem is where you are measuring the toe in / toe out. 1/4" toe in on the leading edge translates to about 1" toe out on the trailing edge. Measuring the trailing edge, it should not be more than 1/4" toe out.
Also if you have play in the bushings, measure with the trailing edge of the rudders gently pulled together. Hope this helps.

Re: control issues
Just wondering if this is on the trailer or in the water?
Tabs are usually a fine tuning thing so you can let go of the stick at cruise and she will ride straight. It takes the last little bit of pressure off the stick and makes riding les tiresome.
If she is pulling that hard on the trailer, something isn’t straight.
Steering linkage between the rudders out of adjustment is the first thing I would look at.

Check your alignment with the stick and a buddy holding the rudders.
Sounds like something is flopping or wore out and your not catching it? Agree a tab is fine tuning and also wfo should run straight, no flop!
