That's the route I tried to take on the pushrods, but for the life of me, I couldn't get the ball end out of the pushrod. My pushrods look like the ball ends were plug welded. I was advised to lay the pushrod on a hard surface like my vice, and take a hammer and tap on the side of the pushrod where the plug weld is
to break the weld loose, but that didn't work either. Ended up going to adjustables. Disassembling the lifters is a must to get proper lash.

Something I have run into, unless the oil is drained out of the sump, don't install all the lifters at once. Just put in 1 pair at a time, set valve lash on that cylinder, then move to the next. If the oil system is full, every time you turn the prop it pumps oil and fills the lifters. After a few revolutions you might have to pull lifters back out to disassemble and drain again to get lash set right. Luckily, Lycoming lifters are a lot simpler to clear and test.

In the case of this new build, just don't fill it with oil until it is all together and this won't be an issue.

I'm with cracker, followed the same procedure to shorten the rods, it's a pain, takes a lot of time and you can't make them longer. Prefer adjustable.

I am I need of a bearing set, #SA427795A3 , standard dia. This is for a phase 1 470 block. I cant find one, every where I look on line is 4 - 6 weeks out, if they even know where to find one. I cant even find the thrust bearing in this set, which is what make the set "odd". Who has one hoarded up on the top shelf in there shop?
