Clear coating bare aluminum, should I?

Post by apg1387 » Sat Oct 13, 2018 1:02 pm

My rudders are bare aluminum and I need to do something with them, I like polished aluminum so at very least I will do that. Has anyone had experience with clear coating them? Did it last and look decent? What product did you use?

I have clear coated polished aluminum components with laqeur and enamels and it just doesn't hold up.

We have discussed using a clear powder coat but have not as of now.

On another note I met a guy about 5 years ago who polished his boat hull like a mirror. After he was done he used a product to seal it called SHARK HIDE. It looked awesome and he was pleased with the job it did. I don't know how it would do on rudders but it would probably be my first choice if I was going with that polished look.

Maybe someone on here more familiar with the product can comment on its endurance and application.

Sharkhide is a product that’s used by many pontoon boat owners to coat their pontoons after they’ve polished them, and many speak favorably of it.

I have no first hand experience with the product, as I have better things to waste my time on than polishing pontoons...

No Sir.

The last shooting I did was an Armscor 1911 in 9mm/22TCM a couple months ago for a TE review for M1911.ORG (that I still have to write).

I hope to make it to the HSC monthly IDPA match this Saturday.

This summer I’ve spent more time guitar picking than shooting, but that’s fixing to change! :D

Shark hide for sure. Clear coat ocean boats with it. Excellent stuff.
