B207R Ecotec 2.0 Turbo, Looking for help with ECM

Postby skinnypockets » Thu Jul 04, 2019 4:53 pm

Happy 4th everyone :salute:
Recently purchased this engine for possibly replacing my ecotec 2.2. LAP, (155 HP non-turbo). The B207R, (turbo), is out of a '05 saab and rated at 210 HP. stock. It was also used in the '06- '10 Cadillac BLS. It also has a lot in common with the 2.0 LSJ, (sodium valves etc.). Both engine blocks look the same so the engine swap should be fairly simple.

The engine did not come with a ECM or wiring harness. Searching on line I've learned this engine uses a Tronic 8 EMC. The ECM on the 2.2 was put together by a aftermarket company and it is locked so I cannot use it on the 2.0

I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction for an affordable stand alone wiring harness and ECM that can be tuned. From what I've read I should be able to tune it to around 275 HP. with moderate upgrades.

I've put together a lot of stuff in my life but never really got into engine computers. Any thoughts, (or constructive criticism), will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, skinnypockets

It's an LK9 engine and very similar to an LSJ. Look for LSJ options and you are likely to get what you need.

Being EFI makes your electronics (PCM) options a lot more varied as there are countless EFI systems these days.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Ecotec_engine#LK9

I think your power goals for the stock engine are within reach and since it's EFI, only limited by your wallet. LSJ engines have put out close to 1000hp in the past.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Yes, been around for ages. Megasquirt / Micro squirt are all from same group.

Likely you can use since your engine is EFI. Just won't come with a harness.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they have. Thanks, Rich

megasquirt 3 user here. great ecu, but the learning curve is really steep. really steep. after purchase you will also need to purchase TunerStudio and MegaLog Viewer. Tuner studio is where you tune and run diagnostic, mega log is where you evaluate engine parameters after a run, to help dial it in.

TS also has a learning type function (Auto Tune) that really speeds up the entire process. you set a target AFR and it does its best to build the VE map. Then you use the log viewer to fine tune.

Any of the Mega squirt PRO units also have a tune and will monitor each cylinder, should you need / want that kind of resolution.

Boost is addicting. At 10 AM 7 psi is great. By 2 pm anything less than 20 psi is for kids.

Super overwhelming at first, very easy once you understand what is going on.

Thanks for the input Ryan, that sounds like a good way to go. Couple issues though before I can make it happen. First would be if my tired old brain can grasp putting it together and second would be cost. I had a lightning strike here at the house and it took out my well pump, phone and computer in one shot. That's gonna take my retirement check for the next month or so. A little setback but won't stop me, just take a little longer. I can still ride but I a extra 100 hp would sure bring my little sled to life.
I'm trying to type on my cell phone and it's not like the computer so I'm going to give it up for tonight. Rich

if you are NOT real electrical savvy, then I recommend purchasing a built MS unit. its about an additional 300 bucks for a lot less headache.

It's amazing to me the variety of EMC's being used on the ecotecs. I really haven't had time to research which would be my best bet for my engine so I'm just going to throw this out there;

Is there anybody around central Florida, (I'm in St Cloud), that can and will be be willing to set me up with, and tune, a ECM and harness for this engine? (ecotec B207R turbo , very similar to the LSJ 2.0) Not looking for charity but I am on a limited budget.

I was talking to Chuck Rackley just before he closed his shop and he was going to walk me through the process to re-pin the GM ECM but when I found out why he was closing the shop I decided to let him enjoy his retirement.

very similar to the LTG 2.0

It's not similar to LTG at all. It is similar to LSJ.

Use an LSJ solution or run an aftermarket EFI from any place that supports an LSJ and you will be set.

Use that as your request to others for help so you get the right help.

Again, nothing at all like an LTG. Forget that now or your going to make it difficult for yourself.

Swap specialties is the best prices I've seen for the ecotecs I friend just got a harness from them very nice clean harness. They were a little slow but if you aren't in a hurry I'd contact them they have LSJ harness and pcm and they do in house tuning as well. https://swapspecialties.com/product/gm- ... e-harness/
