I recently went to automotive, always ran aircraft before. It has a 6.0 iron block, 243 heads, 10:1 diamond pistons,BTR stage 4 cam kit
224/230 -553/547, BTR springs, VVT delete kit and an MSD LS6 black box, N/A with 750 quick fuel carb. I do not know the HP, if I were to guess i would say 450-500???
It currently has a 2.09 reduction on it and the prop is an 80" 3 blade whirlwind 2.0. Prop is set about an 1/8 inch past the last setting and spins 5450 WOT. 2600+- prop RPM, To my thinking it is currently under propped with the current box.
It sits on a 13 x 7-6 Lazer hull, it runs great and does good but my question is can it benefit from a box change to a higher ratio to swing a wider prop like a superwide.
Appreciate any input

Re: LSX Based on 6.0
I run a 6.0 with a similar cam (more duration slightly less lift) and a little more compression. I have a 2.68 box and turn a 79.5 3 bld R 5400 set on mark 3. I have never run a whirlwind blade so not sure how they compare.
I did set up a stock 6.0 with a 2.55 ratio 80' 3 bld and it runs great as well.
If you have room in your cage maybe try a longer hub. I also believe that the new Sensenich blade fit in the whirlwind hub. Longer hub is cheaper than a new gearbox.

Re: LSX Based on 6.0
10-4 Thank you, I can fit an 82 in the cage. Since the 2.0 prop is a 12" wide blade and is made to spin 2600 which is what the 2.09 box needs, I thought about adding a blade to bring the pitch setting down but think it will be too much. While it does do good; I'm just wondering if Im leaving performance on the table being pitched past the last mark. I'll run it like it is for a bit and get used to the boat, the difference from A/C is amazing. Wonder what took me so long to do it, LOL
Thanks again for the input, much appreciated

Re: LSX Based on 6.0
LOL, Kwan I had to give them LS motors a try. Ive had quite a few aircraft and the last 540 was a really nice boat, but the allure of pump gas, readily available cheap parts and excessive power made me slip on over to the dark side LMAO
They all get stuck, now I can just get stuck further away then I used too
But after 30 years of A/C I got to give it a try
