350 Direct Drive Prop Advice

Post by pd10c »

Hey guys, I have a direct drive 350 on a 13.5 x 7.5 cotton mouth hull. I am in need of a new prop and am wondering if a 68x34 narrow wood prop is not enough for this motor? I am not in the position to buy a brand new carbon prop right now and saw a 68x34 prop in the classifieds.

Thanks for the help!

the best wood prop for a 350 dd boat would be a 72 x32 wide blade if you go narrow or what commonly refered to as stick go 72 x 36

I know the carbon props are ideal, but in the meantime would the 68x34 stick prop work?

Thanks for the help

A 68/34 or even 68/36 is not near enough prop for that motor. I swing both on my 4.3l DD and they turn 2950 and 2800 respectively.

72x32 is too much. 70x30 will only get him 2800 if it is built with a mild RV cam. 400 with a mild cam spins a 72x36

I ran a 72-32 paddle prop on my 350 a 72 34 paddle hit the wall was to big. I believe you be better with a warp drive Then a wider 2 blade carbon prop.

If this is a prop you're looking to buy, try it on first and see how it spins. If it over revs, don't buy it. If it does, when you get stuck, you're gonna mash the gas and…hopefully it won't shatter…but it will eventually, when you least expect it…and cause a lot of damage and harm to anything/anyone around it.

An ounce of prevention: get a composite or the correct woody that will stay under 3000 rpm.

I think that is a lot of prop, but warp drive is one of the best props from the stand point of being smooth. that has to be better on the enine. I run a 4 blade warp on mine and it pushes great.

I can say I broke a new timing chain and the prop - wood paddle did not help. I think a smooth is better.

Didn't know if your still looking but I have a 70x32 wide blade for sale if your interested. I ran it on a sbc. Normal nicks and dings. Just pulled it off cause I went carbon. Message me if interested.

Way too small. Most likely a 70" 5 blade if warp drive. Ask someone to borrow a prop and see how much pitch you can put in it. Does it have a prop now?

Think I ran a 72” 4 blade on mine. Can’t recall the pitch setting but it ran good
