Video of new project

Post by KRS62 »

Posted a video of my new project. Do you think its worth rebuilding? I think we could be in good shape with under $1k. Should be cranking it next weekend to see if runs or not. My biggest concern is the hull. I would love any advice you experienced guys could give. Thanks, Kris

If it had that much water in the motor for a long time I’d guess it’s shot. You didn’t say if you could turn it over by hand. Might want to scope the cylinders.

Yes, that was very concerning. It does turn over by hand. I will keep y'all posted!

Thanks John. My (exciting) videos are a little bit behind where I am in reality. Boat is running and we are just working out settings on the carb to get it to idle.

One thing I highly recommend is pulling the cam followers and check them for spalding if it sat that long with water. It’s a huge issue with aircraft that seldom fly on both Continentals and Lycomings. It sucks investing a lot of time in bringing a engine back to life only to have it grind up the cam on the first run. Luckily with Big Bore Continentals you can remove the followers without splitting the cases.
