What is the Top engine rpm you desire ? If your content running under 5,400 and having a lot of usable power look at a cam similar to this spec. 495/502 lift 220/224 duration @50’ 112 LSA That is the exact cam spec that Smeding Performance uses in their 420hp. They are very kind to share.

Advice for running a Buick 455

You are the perfect example of someone who could lose an engine in one oil change ! You have got to use one of the oils that is “verified” to have the proper level of ZZDP to protect it. In addition a DD car engine also has to protect its thrust bearing. There was a Buick boat years ago over...

    Help needed!!

To clarify what Fenner is telling you to check. When mounting the flex plate what hardware are you using? It is possible that the bolt heads could be a source of interference (contact) and causing this issue. The other thing to check is the bolt alignments. In some drives such as OX for...

    Help needed!!

Let me clarify! Never seen the Century component crack like that. I have seen a bunch of cheap flex plates crack on both belt and gear drives. In fact it’s pretty common on some rigid gear drives that require you to shim with washers because guys rush the job or ignore the instructions. Flex...

    Propoise

Well that explains it ! You think maybe it was cracked and repaired by someone along the way. I can not imagine how else that could happen. Maybe you could use Steel Flex or an epoxy to fill it ? I just can’t believe that a trim tab can’t eliminate the hop. I really don’t know

    AIRBOAT LIGHTING?!?!?

Love my big curved LED bar up on the bow ! Have 2 LEDs on cage only to use as courtesy lights when guests are onboard. They are useless for navigation as others have advised. eBay back around 2017 paid around $25 back then and I think it’s 54 inches. Should have bought 100 and sold them on...

I have never seen that before. The thrust bearing end play should probably be checked while your this far into it. Fennner your opinion ?

Is there such a thing as a low budget gearbox?

Can’t beat the price if someone was gonna do a build and 2:1 was their spec. Web page says $2295 If you could find a junk yard 400 sbc and marry them it would be budget power.

    Propoise

What happens if you put 50 or 100 pounds on the front deck ? Try a loaded cooler or skinny hot chick ! Both my friends who have square nose JW boats hop but they are big on power. One the tab fixed and the other he pushed weight around and worked the bottom. Another thing is look at...

    Prop

Generally speaking a carbon fiber prop can be made shorter. The best advice is contact the manufacturer and discuss any modification with them. I personally have dealings with Sensenich and they have a service program to repair, refinish and balance. That would be the time to address a cut...

    Help needed!!

I have seen flex plates crack before so giving that a close look is prudent. You definitely need to be sure that your input is good because I have seen a Century wipe out the mains in a big block before.

    Whirlwind SW to Sensenich JX????

Old post guys but we can wake it up. There is just something magical about the 2.55 ratio on a Big Block Chevy. That said you would think a 2.68 pairing with a 540 would push better. Seems like his pitch choice what we call “choking it back” has pulled the engine down into its peak torque...

    Preheating in sub-freezing temps

Great idea John ! Heating pads, blanket and cover with a canvass tarp. The tarps have eyelets and you can wrap it up tight and bungle cord the package for travel.

    Preheating in sub-freezing temps

Yes but do not use much. Try a short spray when cranking it over. Right into carb just know it does not require very much. It is a very dry product so use very sparingly. Usually once the engine pops off and runs your good for the day. Again do not use very much and let us know if that...

    Preheating in sub-freezing temps

You try ether (starting fluid) just to get it to pop off? I’m not a AC guy but it helps on difficult starts with all our engines.
