So this is the 0320 under the “carb rebuild” post. Brief history. Complete rebuild crank cam jugs pistons etc 2012. Reputable builder but dying of cancer when he was finishing engine. Engine was started 2012 to hear it run then sat, inside shop, till Jan ‘19. Cranked a couple times then Did run in per overhaul manual. Has not been off trailer Been waiting on new ww prop. Just installed. Tached at 3050 wot on trailer. Adjusted to get 2800. Engine responsive and smooth. No vibration. When finished noticed oil sheen on prop. Puddling on flywheel and dripping down rear engine mount. Assume it is crank seal. Oil pressure at startup has been 45-50. 30 @ ideal warm. Question is should I just replace the seal or be looking at what caused it to blow??? %#^*+*. :banghead: was so ready to put it back on the water.

Removed seal. Part # is SL-13792e. Is this supposed to be a split seal or is it broke. Seal came out easily. Had some adhesive on it but could easily chip it off case flange with finger nail. Found solid seal on aircraft spruce part # LW-13792. Is this the same part? This a 150 case. O-320-e2g

I prefer solid seal. Split seal is aircraft quality but still prefer solid. They male a tool to stretch it over flange and it makes it a lot easier but it can be done without it. Install with a product called the right stuff. You can get it at NAPA.

If I remember right I removed the spring and boiled the rubber seal in water the b stretched it over the crank flange.

Spring has to be removed and installed on shaft before you install spring. No need to boil it will go over without it. Was told the are manufactured from lady parts. Its the only other thing that can stretch that far without breaking. Try tube, there may be something there.

I appreciate everybody’s help. I have solid seal on the way. I got the Dow 737 adhesive that lycoming specs. Is the “right stuff” more dependable??

I use “The Right Stuff” on everything, in particular my swamp buggy. It is so much better vs. the old Silicone, never had a leak from anything I seal with it. The primary issue with it is it is so good that it’s difficult as heck to get parts apart later and I have to use a wire wheel to clean it off.

I used it one time for the oil screen housing on my O540. I was doing an oil change and did not have another gasket. Took a lot of clean up on the next oil change.

Got seal installed this weekend. Amazed at how easy it is was. Cleaned surfaces 4 times with carb cleaner and let dry 2 hours before install. Haven’t cranked it yet but hopeful.
