yea most of my buddys run caddies and another one bits the dust my buddy has a 11 1/2 hull we just put a caddie he had on it runs great but whiten 4 mths it burnt the 2nd coil up the yellow and red wires fried. its a 472 69 stock any solutions other then go aircraft  or chevy
he was suppost to race it next race :D their is alot more dd boat to race now bonds wt maybe we can see some dd fun

Use more periods James....I ran out of breath reading it!

Are you sure it's a coil problem and not a wiring issue?

with the wires fried are you sure its not wired backwards
cheap Ign. switches short out regularly
are you using a capacitor for the coil  ??????????
maybe buy something better than a $12 coil
I'm just busting Ya chops
when you get quality you have to pay for it :D

Are you talking about the primary wires? Is is a high performance coil? High performance coils run lower resistance in the primary so draw more amps. If the wires are small it will overload them. I need more information as to what happened and what wires that burnt. Color of them tells me nothing.

GUYS ITS NOT MY BOAT ITS A BUDDYS LIL CADDIE BOAT 472 REG COIL NOTHING REAL EXPENSIVE MAYBE 25.00 COIL GM/OE HEI COIL HELL THATS ALL THE INFO HE GAVE ME I HAD NO CLUE WHY I THOUGHT BAD WIRING SOME WHERE WE WENT THREW THE WIRING IT WAS ALL GOOD
THE IGNITION IS A BENNETT BRASS SWITCH ABOUT 20 DOLLERS IT WORKS EVERY TIME DONT THINK ITS THE SWITCH BUT YA NEVER NO
THE WIRES ON THE COIL ARE SMALL BUT STD SZ AS MY HIGH PERFORMANCE COIL

Just a thought-are you running a tach, if so try running with it disconnected and feel the wires for abnormal heat. If wires feel ok, you might be dealing with a tach short, very common with even the best tachs when subjected to rough rides. If you have a wiring short they're usually going to make the wiring hot immediately, the tach may short to ground while in use.
One other area of concern- If your ignition is a stand alone dist( everything including coil is enclosed) when replacing the coil, have you been careful to be sure center ground strap is in place? Your coil will be short lived without it, although this will destroy your coil and often your module as well, it rarely melts wires. With a volt/ohm meter and a little patience you'll do ok. If not , go to my web. site and give me a call or email.

James.. To the best of my knowledge the power wire and the tach wires on the HP coils are TXL 600 volt/125c wire.. It is completely different than normal wire.. If your feeding it with the same size wire by looks your probably using 16 ga which caries about a quarter of what the TXL 600 volt/125c wire will carry..

Damn Smuggler ... I'm impressed - Witchy must be making you study. But all you guys have missed the real bug. It's the flux capacitor.

I was thinking the same thing but was hoping he'd find a much cheaper answer! :D :D

 U GUY'S R FUNNY THATS WHAT MAKES ME A SMART A$$
THANKS TO THE ONES WHO TRYED TO HELP

I'd pay attention to the post from Moonrisin... rumor has it he is one heck of a mechnic.. I know from taking a carb to S/S it ain't no rumor.

I also don't know about those wire sizes etc... but I'll never run anything less than #12 wire in the boat.
