advice about a 327

I am thinking about building a 327 any advice on hull size and prop size ect its going to be a dd not a gearbox and how I should build it to run some land?
 
A direct drive car motor boat works best with BIG cubic inches and lot's of torque. If the 327sbc is your only option then for any chance of running ground a smaller ultra lite boat is the only option and even then doubtful. If you could find an old junk yard Cadillac 472 or 500 they work good but anymore getting real hard to find one.

if I got a Cadillac 500 could I spin a wood prop stock or?
 
Search a few of the threads on here, there is a lot of info on props for DD Cadillac and what brand, pitch and length works in different senarios.

A lot of the old timers swear by woodies for value and low end grunt !
 
I got a 500 caddy stock and ran a 72x42 paddle prop. Wood Put a carbon prop on and gained the snap back but lost the low end push. I would go though a wood prop about ever 2 to 3 yrs. have had the same carbon prop for about 14 to 15 yrs. cost more but saved in the long run. Thanks Doug

How good was your gas?
 
Great till I change to a edlbrock had a Holley 600 could joy ride al day on about 18 to 20 gal Thanks. Doug
 
There is no choice in my mind If you have a running 500 vs SBC. Cadillac weighs about 60 lbs more with an aluminum intake than a sbc and make all most twice the toque at the same rpm. Now it will develop a little more torque with the stock intake and a 1" split spacer.

If the caddy is stock, change the timing chain to a cloyes and use a hei ignition.

A DD can run the ground but very few do unless they are setup right and light. Most will cross dry patches of ground though but run 1/2mile of dry no.
