Dry ice

Anybody ever try using dry ice camping too keep food,just wondering if it work as well as ice,tryin ta cut down on weight in boat goin to camp huntin 4 a week,thanks
 
a few seasons ago i bought a 4x8 piece of 1 inch insulation board from lowes,made a box 2x2x3 with a lid in the front like a fridge..seemed it all up with foil tape ...put a 3 lb block of dry ice in a plastic bowl and used it like a fridge for everything but the cold drinks..eggs,bacon,deer steaks ect....kept it 40 degrees for 5 days.
 
I have often asked people where to buy dry ice and no one had any idea where to purchase it and low and behold you fellas came thru again as always !! This is a fantastic site and I'm PROUD to be a member !!
 
It sure is,& some good ideas too,during bow season my cooler 100qt does pretty good for 3days but after that hv found myself having ta run bk in for ice & beer since im there,lookin for better options!
 
Be sure too put a sheet of cardboard or some sort if insulation between the cooler and the dry ice. I took a bunch of loaded coolers over to the Bahamas earlier this summer. The dry ice kept everything frozen, but it also basically melted the bottom of two frigid rigids. Delamned the bottoms and exposed the foam. Expensive mistake....the food hard as a rock though.
 
Rad Ripper thanks for that info i would of screwed up two of my yettis for sure the first thing i would of done is put it right on the bottom of mine thanks those yettis are not cheep
