End Of the season

Well, duck season finally came to a close today. Just wondering how everyone did collectivley? We hunted about 18 days and killed over 200+ birds, mostly ringers, teal, and mottled.
 
16 day's hunted for me with 91 birds (my bag only)..Mostly sta hunts, 3 airboat hunts. 1 banded teal from sta 3/4. Then I was sold out on the last day by my buddy for the chili cook off... and he had a sta 2 permit!!! Joe
 
Those STAs are great, I haven't had the oppprotunity to hunt one yet but from what i gather the vegitation pulls in alot of birds from the lake. And plus the pressure isnt on the birds nearly as bad as other places.
 
The sta's will ruin s fl duck hunting as we once new it.You are absolutely correct in saying they pull the birds. Problem is we have 2% access to them,with non motorized boats.

They dictate when you can put in, when you have to be out.
No trailers allowed,if your late loose your permit(if you can get one).
Sky busters,early shooters,yahoo's galore.......
Closed 6 days a week....

Imagine your favorite deer woods having a 90k acre preserve next to it...(and you can't poach!) and all the deer just sit there eating,and playing happily,knowing you can't touch em.

That's my thoughts on it also. But It would be nice to go and hunt there a few times. I hunted out of Holiday Park and the south side of the lake and did pretty good this year beside me not duck hunting in 5 years and for some reason I can't hit the goodyear blimp in the sky. Me and my day only hunted 8 days this season.
 
Rich, you hit it on the head. I was talking with my neighbor who is a game warden and he said the same thing. Not to mention, seeing it for myself first hand. This year was my 20th season and within the last 5 years i have noticed a huge drop in the number of birds on the Big O...... I've seen the same thing happen with fishing. And i say this because i have fished for a living. When flourocarbon came into the market, every sportdick went out and down sized on their leaders and gear. The fish were conditioned to the new presentaion and boom, comercial guys were screwed bcz fish were gun shy on bitting wire or heavy leader... Same thing with the STAs, limited hunting, leads to conditioned ducks.. Sure they are great but they take away from what florida is famous for; the Glades and the Big O..
