Good fun C/M vs A/C racing

dave you said you were gonna do this 2 years ago and you didnt do it im holdin your feet to the fire this time what happen to your mini you were doing with hammant you got to stop baiten us with the bs do it dude 8)

I think I have done allot. I have two completed min motors in the shop one is a four banger and the other is six banger both are fuel injected. The mini thing I think was a fad I don’t know anybody who has one nor have I ever seen one out riding. I finished two motors but I’m not going to waist any more time on them. Business comes first and in the small time left that I’m not working then I play with this stuff needless to say any free time I had last year was spent playing with my unlimited boat! Trust me I wished I didn’t waist a minute of my time on them mini motors! Oh ya we are four years into the Proto motor and we finally found somebody who can make injectors for it! This DD bet was between me and a friend and neither of us wanted to set a time limit. I’m getting the feeling it was a bad idea to post this too!

what is the weight difference in a chevy 400 dd to a lycoming 0360 200hp
Dave said
It's around 200lbs an average SBC with aluminum heads and water pump is about 550lbs a angle valve 180 is under 350lbs. A 200 WILL STOMP A DD 400!
Now I'm confused :?

not slamin ya just want to see it, i tryed to get a small block dd to run with a/c boats quite a while back and came real close but no cigar, rear main cant take it for very long , if you put the power up and the tq to turn a 540 prop 3200 it eats the bearings but it can be done, plus i had the compression up there and had a lot of cooling issues, ive seen a guy on kissimee dont know his name but hes got the baddest dd chevy boat around, pounds the crap out of the dry with 3 people on it, never got a chance to talk to him about his motor but im sure its a 400 on a cut down lazer im sure hes figured out a good grind on the cam ,

LMAO!!! I needed a good laugh this morning!!! Can't wait till you show up at the machine shop to have your rotating assembly balanced with an 80" prop bolted to the crank  !!! To get the torque numbers your going to need to even make it a race, you might want to put a Duramax on it

No problem. We shall see this is gonna be fun! I have some every cool stuff going together all of which I'm being told will not work or if it worked somebody would have already done it. Joey all you need to say is it can't be done!

Earth to Dave, Dave, Dave- as much as I like you- you crack me up
I have my rubber boots on
Car motor guys will ALWAYS have the crutch of a gearbox
Its a POWER ADDER

Carmotor+ gearbox
Aircraft+NOS

Now thats fair

Dont waste your time man
-take all that direct drive building time and just spend it with your family!
Because in the end you wont win!

I would just take the money your going to spend and build a 540, you know, something that will still be running when your daughter want's her first boat  !!!

Remember the rules we disscused , same style hull here, and no power adders. I don't want to be smelling no Very Berry fuel perfume :D

Jimmy 540 cubic inches vs 350 cubic inches that is why the gearbox is needed. Hell I can't think of any motor sport that let's a big block run against a small block heads up let alone when a motor is 200 cubic inches bigger. Without the gearbox most V/8's only make 200hp at best. This is the reason I'm doing this. If I manage to out run a motor that is almost 200 cubic inches bigger well that is a pretty big statement in it's self! 10 years ago it was car motors suck, then it was they are unreliable then finally they are too heavy now after all of that has been proven wrong the new comment I hear is it ain't fair take off the gearbox. I can't even image what will be said next if a DD beats a O540. I’m not saying I will win but you might want to start thinking of the next excuse!

all i can say is never say never 8) sucessful people see a problem or a need and solve it, a a[c motor is a marvel of enginering, 50yrs and still the ticket for small aircraft, great for sportsman airboats , but every body knows parts are limited and new parts are almost not worth it for a boat, the aftermarket is bankrupt and the stuff will get higher, dave i think you should at least be able to use 427 ci stoker and tour still at a great disadvantage,540 piston are bigger than folgers coffee cans

I'm new to the southernairboat fun you guys have together about who's boat is faster or more reliable, but I do know this. I don't care if you have an a/c or a c/m or a outboard, inboard, paddle or what ever it takes to get you out there to help me or anybody else who needs help, I know every one of you guys will putt all that b. s. behind you and go out there and help each other, I have seen it in action, deep down in heart, we all care about each other. Lets try to stick with what we truely want, and that is to keep airboating alive and free for us and generations to come. Lets ride hard and free.

I was at one of our block parties last night in my neighborhood. For those of you that don’t know everyone in my neighborhood has two airboats in their yard. There is no where else I would rather live and pretty much everyone here has built their own airboat. Our hood is about 50/50 when it comes to car motor and a/c motor boats. Well at all these gatherings it comes down to me Jay and Quick Diesel and sometimes, Matthew, Scott and a few others arguing the old car motor vs A/C motor. Funny it always ends the same. Were all good friends and know the other guy’s knows what the hell he is doing. Jay and Joey have always had very fast boats and sometimes the fastest. We are always battling back and forth but at the same time will help each other out in a second.

So once again the take of the gearbox and run me comment came up. I said I only have a 360 cubic inch motor and you have a 540 cubic inch motor I guess they didn’t think that was a valid point! So I finally said if I build a 350HP DD car motor and stomp your O-540 what else will you have left to whine about! After a long pause they said that will never happen. So I said let’s make a bet Jay bounced back OK how about $1,000, I said do you really wanna do that he said your right how about a 12 pack. And it hit me these guy’s are fast and have flown a boat. I have seen Jay test and try three different bottoms on a boat in three day’s. So I suggested if I win they must place a large sticker on their rudders that say’s aircraft motors suck and if they win I must place a sticker on my rudders that say’s car motors suck! Right then everyone around this very heated debate started going nut’s. We are all gonna have fun with this. P.S. I told Jay to write the rules he would prefer and submit them to me both boats will have to be considered ride boats with two seats! This will take a while because we are all tight money wise but it’s gonna be one hell of a fun build up.

dave, we had this conversation in your shop the otherday and i thought you were crasy! butt boys i gotta tell you. if it can be done, daves one of the elite few" and i mean very few" who could get it done. call me if you need some help!

I know one thing I'm gonna have fun trying Dave! I have two motors I must pick between the first is a no brainer I want to build a short deck 540 Aluminum big block Chevy. But I don't have the money, also I have a production truck LS block that was given to me from a dealer. Plus if I go LS I have everything I need in house and it would be cool to use the same platform I sell! I also have a new bare LS9 block on the way that has the piston squirters that will help me do some things I want to try! I will probably build it from shop droppings and what I have in the shop just for cost reasons! Joey you had better tell Jay M he is about to schooled by a junk yard DD car motor!
