The input shaft bearing looks good. Going to remove the upper assembly nextThe input shaft bearing assembly can be removed without disassembling the drive unit.. De-tension the belt by unbolting and rotating upper bearing holder, unbolt lower bearing, loosen locking ring with Allen wrench and slide out bearing assembly. Inspect part.
Flex plate access will require supporting the rear of engine, since the drive unit housing is the rear engine mount. Much more disassembly is required for flex plate service.
Go to airboatdrives.org and look up their installation instructions pdf for detailed steps and specific instructions.
I have no clue what the suspect noise is but I am very curious as to what it's underlying cause is, as I have a belt drive on my boat as well.Here's the quick fix for that video...
