Take it off and see what's messed up. The bottom bearing is cheap and user serviceable. The other one Century wants you to send it back to them. If there is a heavy equipment bearing shop close by they can do it.....dont tell Century I said that.

I can't get the file to upload. Hopefully I can get it torn down this week. I've had multiple people say it's the flex plate. Once I do I can post pictures

The input shaft bearing assembly can be removed without disassembling the drive unit.. De-tension the belt by unbolting and rotating upper bearing holder, unbolt lower bearing, loosen locking ring with Allen wrench and slide out bearing assembly. Inspect part.
Flex plate access will require supporting the rear of engine, since the drive unit housing is the rear engine mount. Much more disassembly is required for flex plate service.
Go to airboatdrives.org and look up their installation instructions pdf for detailed steps and specific instructions.

The input shaft bearing looks good. Going to remove the upper assembly next

I have no clue what the suspect noise is but I am very curious as to what it's underlying cause is, as I have a belt drive on my boat as well.

I showed a very knowledgeable buddy of mine the video and he suggested a cracked flywheel or flexplate fyi.

I have seen flex plates crack before so giving that a close look is prudent. You definitely need to be sure that your input is good because I have seen a Century wipe out the mains in a big block before.

The thrust bearing end play should probably be checked while your this far into it.

What are some recommendations for a new flywheel? I know people say jw, are there some others?

I would recommend calling Century Drive Systems, the owner has a wealth of knowledge and will spend as much time is needed on the phone to help you fix your belt drive(atleast he did for me). I got great customer service from them. He recommended me to use a Meziere Enterprises flexplate on my boat(I have heard through the grapevine that jw quality has gone downhill as of lately)I am the furthest thing from a mechanic but i just wanted to share my results from my time digging for info. I'm glad you didn't continue to run your boat, I'm always ocd when I hear a off noise and it has saved me $$$$ and time.

Glad you found the “rattle”, when we were in the parts business, these guys were a great supplier.
I’ve run several of their flex plates and they fit/function as advertised.

Currently running one ( 5 years) on my old 454 HO.
Not advertised as “high performance “ so reasonably priced aftermarket ( but based in Meridian Ms.) so “may be” U.S. made
I have no frame of reference for broken belt box drive plate, would guess/assume one failure caused the other…cracked engine plate is common and high percentage it was “root cause”
the engine flex plates are available as internal, and external balanced, so pay attention to weights or not…..to match harmonic balancer.
Too cold to drive em right now ( at my house)
May as well enjoy ( or act like it) working on em.

As soon as I watched the video I said to myself it's definitely a cracked Flexplate. I have seen this happen so many times with a belt box and even a few with gearbox. JW Flexplate is going to be the only thing Century will tell you to use and I can say from all the boats I've built that I agree.
