How Many More Must Die ??

Im posting this to vent a bit and maybe us as a sportsman's group can promote and educate the public..

Another one of my LEO family has been killed on the highways of Florida.. This time she was a mother and an innocent Towing & recovery operator was taken with her...

The MOVE OVER LAW wasn't adhered to and cost there 2 their lives and injured a 3rd.
I know there are lots of y'all in the Marion County area... This is going to hit home...

Please talk about this tragedy to your family and friends and express the importance of this law and how it works...
Scrambletown will probably agree this BS of not giving us a BRAKE and Moving Over while we are out there and you're passing us at 70 MPH is NUTS....

I want to go home at the end of my shift !!!
I also know that there are some naysayers that will say "thats the job you choose" inherent dangers - YES you are right too !!!
But it wasn't in that context to be helping innocent people and them getting hurt while doing that.. It was more of a protection from really Bad Evil people that intentionally want to harm you.

These people that are oblivious to the Move Over law are are idiots and more lethal than those with guns and knives....

Who knows could be one of us on the way to / from lake with our boat with a flat tire ????

Thanks for listening
Once a Trooper always a TROOPER...

All I can say Otter is get use to it. The new generation has no respect like the previous. Just yesterday at a funeral for my Grandfather, I was almost Tboned at a red light with the police blocking the intersection with lights on. When the light turned green she bolted right through the funeral line right at me!! Unreal!!!!! Along the way to the cemetery several cars cut in the line and not one stopped until we were out of town. Then all of the sudden EVERY vehicle we passed was pulled over giving respect. Very sad that this is the society that we now live in!!

OTTER,
there is now 3 dead the other man died.
I agree about the move over law 100% I personally have had a couple close calls.
but the move over law had nothing to do with this unfortunate accident......
the trooper (MRS. RICHARD) and the tow truck driver and a third person we're doing their paper work on an accident beside the road when a 7 car accident occurred north of them causing the truck to loose control an ran into the trooper car, and hitting the 3 people. 2 died at the scene and 1 at the hospital.
butt its still under investigation.

My condolences Otter. As a fireman, we've come real close to getting run over on the highway, numerous times. It is my biggest fear for my troops. More dangerous than any fire. We just got our pumper back from the shop after being hit by a reckless motorist while handling an emergency on I95. There are a lot of angry drivers who feel inconvenienced by the traffic slow down while emergency responders work a scene.
Be safe…EGH
Everyone Goes Home
God Bless

Otter,
Sorry to hear that. I can relate very well to what you are doing and have to put up with. I used to work for a rental company in the early 1970s and had to go out an help people broke down with our trucks or trailers on Interstate 80 when it was 75 MPH. Dang near knocked you off your feet with just the wind when they went by to close.

Be safe out there.

People need to slow down and pay attention while on the road. Sorry to hear about this. My condolences go out to everybody involved. Prayers for the family's!!!!!

Being on 2 wheels most of the time, I ALWAYS move over and slow down. The last thing I want is some fool opening a door right in front of me ! For me its not only the law, its a friggin no brainer.

SCOTTY,
I have a car here in my impound yard, there is a motorcycle completely inside the car.
they estimate it at 175 m.p.h. when it hit the car. if I knew how to put pictures on here I would post them.
a very sobering sight!
when I picked it up I came home and sold my harley, the man that bought it went to biketoberfest that year and got killed on it.
I will never ride a motorcycle on florida roads again.
people have no respect for motorcycles, or big rigs.

Heh, my money says it was one of them rice rockets. I really have a hard time feeling sorry for them. They are basically a full race bike that IMO has no place on the streets. Our streets were never made for that kind of riding and those speeds. Not to mention its usually someone with very limited experience on a bike that buys them. I rode one around the block an found it so uncomfortable I was left wondering why anyone would bother with one.

For my mind set, its not always the other guy that causes the accident. Being on 2 wheels means you follow farther back and remember the 4 wheelers can always stop quicker than I can. I always drive for myself AND the other guy. Been at it since about 1963/4 and have never been hurt or tore one up on the streets. Cant say the same on the dirt. I did myself up real pretty riding through Africa on dirt and gravel roads and on no roads LOL. No matter how I look at it, it seems to take 4 times the attention to traffic and maybe 10 times the skill to ride a bike than to drive a car. Of course any fool can go buy one and kill himself or let someone else kill them. I pretty much accept that its up to me to prevent the accident and I never expect things to happen like they should. I get dissed for my following distance by other riders, but I'm not hurt and most of them are or have been. Now this doesn't mean I'm complacent about my methods, I do adjust as conditions and vehicles demand. In some ways its about like flying a plane. Its not something you do to show off of tame a temper. Its more of an engineering experience. Maybe my description isn't the best, just the best I can come up with at the moment. It would be an advantage to have one eye that was 360 degrees around my head, but I'd never get the coffee house chicks to ride with me then. LOL

Never have made it to bike week and every year I want to go but decide not to.

Bikes, cars and airboat they think because they can afford one that they are qualified to drive it. I sold my bike because of this and moved out of the state . Thanks. Doug

my wife and I used to go to bike week, just lost interest,
got hit head on once was thrown over the idiot that hit me didn't get hurt. miracle in it self.

Condolences for all involved

pulling over for emergency vehicles to pass is tough some folks just won't let you many times

i got hit stopped at a 4 way stop by a girl texting she hit my truck so hard it broke the leaf springs off the frame,my seat broke knocked me out. If I have to dial out I just pull over don't even answer the phone unless i'm stopped I know that's a little overboard but too many things can happen
and I do slow down big time when I can't move over

In Ga. it is illegal to text and drive,,,

It is also illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving a CDL vehicle,,,

$10,000.00 fine for the operator, and $25,000.00 fine for the company,,,

Some say the fines are way too high, but what is a life worth???

Slide safe my friends,,,

Very sad for the the families who lost loved ones. Even on a single lane road I slow way down, at least 20 mph in a 35 zone. I wish they would write tickets for not moving over.

well the story gets even worse,
while a police escort, escorting the body of TROOPER RICHARD back from the medical examiner office in leesburg to ocala funeral home.
a motorcycle trooper (KEVIN BROWN) blocking an intersection was hit by a car, he was not seriously hurt. he was part of a 10 vehicle escort.
yes even in a escort with red and blue lights flashing, people still drive with their heads up their ass.

As a firefighter directing traffic at accidents you never look away from traffic. I was suspended more than once for putting a mag lite through windshields after being payed up on car hoods because the drivers weren't paying attention after a fellow firemen called my attention away. Thoughts and prayers go out to all the famielys
