Obama Executive Orders - gun violence

The following is a list, provided by the White House, of executive actions President Obama plans to take to address gun violence.

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health

From what I gather, these "orders" are just asking people to do their jobs, which they should already be doing. Just more govt nonsense.........

Did obambaramba fear awakening the anger in the American people, and chicken-out?
 
Yeah I think he did..........or just a attempt to calm down the mob and slide some shizzzz in the back door!!!!
 
He couldn't have done anything in an executive order that falls under Congressional rule. If he did, it would have been overturned via the court system.

Since banning a weapon or restricting the size of a magazine is a commerce item (interstate at that), only Congress can regulate.
 
He did say on the television speech he expected Congress to do more and did say something about military style weapons and re issuing the first assault weapons ban on one of the news stations around lunch time
He ain't chickening out just playing the game a little at a time but on steroids
also yesterday on item14 those folks from the health & disease department all were heavy against semiautomatics and magazines holding more than a few rounds on one of those news stations covering the forum

Then he puts out this list = chickening-out

That's what I think, but I never said I thought he, or they were done yet.

There is precedent for executive order gun control........

In 1989, then President George H.W. Bush issued an executive order halting the importation of some semi-automatic firearms after a mass school shooting Stockton, California. He based his executive order on the 1968 Gun Control Act and used it to ban the shipment of what could be considered “assault weapons” unless they were used for sporting purposes.

In 1998, then President Bill Clinton also issued an executive order to ban the importation of more than 50 semiautomatic “assault weapons” that had been modified to get through that “sporting purposes” exemption.

In 2001, Clinton moved again via executive order, banning the importation of assault pistols.
 
I better not have some damned Doctor ever ask me if I own any guns. He wont be pleased with my very intentionally offensive non answer.

The medical industry has no business sharing our personal info with anyone. Period.

Some of this list has already been adjudicated to be illegal.

He is going to have his henchmen threaten congress again just like was done in the Bush Administration when Congress was threatened with martial law if they didn't agree to go to war. Or was it to pass the Patriot Act. Foggy brain.

I wrote all my elected officials back then demanding that any time they were threatened by any administration to immediately call the administrations bluff and never back off. Got several limp wristed replies back then.
 
In both of the cases above, those were executive orders which banned importation, which is not the same as banning or limiting domestically produced items.

I'm just passing on what I read on a constitutional website. Your mileage may vary.

I'm waiting to see what they consider an "assault weapon".
 
Importation is not the same as re-importation or repatriating guns we manufactured here in the states then passed out on lend/lease agreements either. Those guns STILL belong to the US.
 
There is one thing that should be done I didn't see. Legal gun owners need to be held accountable to some degree for lost or stolen weapons. People need to make sure they are properly stored or managed so that thieves don't have an easy target. I had my 22 mag stolen out of my truck not long ago. All because I am from the old school and didn't lock my truck doors at home. Made me lose sleep for a while thinking that some dopehead would harm another individual with it. I should have been more responsible. Adam Lanza's mother should have had her weapons locked up and out of his reach.
 
Yes theres lots of stuff in this order that needs not be in there. I do feel if a threat of violence is made on any one, every one has a duty to act in reporting. I also feel its none of my doctors bussiness if I own any firearms, although I do shoot and hunt with my doctor and we are personal freinds. theres too many loop holes in this for it to be any benifit, its going to get put into action and the damn thing will get twisted to what they want.

I think you are right about them not being done yet I can't watch one more of those meetings on the subject been home sick and the discussions I watched on a couple of Television newsstations is overwhelmingly against firearms and a lot more restrictions.All kinds of politicians, organizations, experts have come on slamming any firearm that does not meet "Their View" of what type of firearm is allowed under their view of the 2nd amendment.
Going to turn the idiot box off or at least switch stations

Well, i firmly disagree... what if the thief were under age, and stole my whiskey? should i also be charged with contributing to a minor?...... the easy answer is to hold the criminal accountable, swift and resolute justice..when one understands there are consequences for their actions, they begin to change....laws control the lesser man, right conduct controls the greater....l8tr
 
I'm w/ cowboy. This whole play has been in the cards since obamao was elected in 08. Now was the time, but the roaches' antennae picked up what the people were layin' down and they pulled in their horns.....for now.

Expect another, probably worse, mass shooting very soon IMO.

This is not over by a long shot but it will be a tougher nut than they initially appreciated it to be.

This will ultimately come down to state and local yokels nullifying these people. Or civil strife. One or the other, history dictates it.

Sorry levy but this card game started way before Obama, like it or not THEY all are for the same goal, one world government under supreme rule. Obama, bush Reagan Clinton it doesn't matter the name, federal reserve is the true leader.
 
Well as far as I am concerned there is not word in any of it that is necessary or beneficial. Its all a bunch of crooks trying to take something that doesn't belong to them. They just trying to make it look all legal. Nothing but low lifes trying to grand stand for their money men. Scum of the earth JMO.
 
Commanche, no doubt they have been at it for a long long time....since Lincoln actually. Obama is their Neo, their Luke, he's the one they have been priming for. Decades of publik edukashun, a dependant welfare state, a near insurmountable voter bloc seasoned w/ some timely and focused fraud, etc and it becomes apparent the fruit is ready for the pickin'.....

But damn the people have ALOT of guns...gotta do somethin' about that first.
