Power Programmers

I have been looking into getting a power programmer for my truck to make pulling the airboat a little better (which makes this thread airboat related :) ) I have done some searches and what I have come up with is a toss up between Hypertec and SuperChips anyone have any experiances with these? Like which is better for towing? Everything I read says they are about the same but let me know your thoughts...
Thanks...

I have a diesel f 250 and i have the superchips it made a big difference in my power and fuel milage. I also put on 4 inch down pipe of ther turbo and 5 inch exhaust. I got my money back for sure i have im averaging 19 mile to gallon in town. more power and better fuel economy i have my on the lowest setting for towing. add's 75 horse. you need to change air filter, programmer, and exhaust to really get fuel economy.

Two of my very good buddies work at superchips, and both are airboat friendly!! haha, One will be setting the timing on my motor this weekend for me, after he just got me a few parts at a "superchips" price (sshhhhhhh!!! )
so just that fact alone id recommend em, i know they say they can program it as you want, give em a call.
my buddy andy just did another friend of ours trucks, and just with programming it alone ADDED an additional 175 horsepower and 2hundred something something (dont get me lying!) ft lbs of torque on a dodge turbo diesel. now thats ridiculous!

the truck I have now has a Jody 6 position chip but I have used the Superchip on several diffrent trucks and it works great. You can also use the programmer to check your trucks computer for trouble codes. This is a great function because your truck will tell you if there is a problem and what it is.

I run a 2000 7.3 Ford with an Edge Evolution computer with a stacked Edge Juice with an Attitude computer. Huge difference in performance and mileage. Also run a 4 inch exhaust from the turbo down and a good intake system too along with a myriad of other fixes applicable to the 7.3. In 4 wheel drive it runs a 14.4 in the 1/4 mile at 8900lbs. Giter done....

FWIW if you are putting it on a Dodge and have any warrenty left it will void the warrenty. They are very narrow minded when it comes to programers and in my opnion use them as an excuse to avoid paying for something they should pay for. Ford dealerships on the other hand are cool about it and ask you to remove it before service so you don't loose it.
My '05 Dodge was a year old with 25,000 miles on it and a Super Tuner set to mild. That was the only change from stock when the piston in the fuel pump shot out of the side of the pump on I-10 headed to 301. There I was with an empty 40' gooseneck 2 1/2 hours from home on I-10. The Dodge dealer looked at it and said "covered". Then the call came the next day "not covered" Computer has been reprogramed. Even though I took it out waiting for the tow truck
The bill was close to $3500 plus the rental to get home.
If you break down like that with something the tow company doesn't want to tow try calling an RV dealership. They move all kinds of trailers. Thank you River's RV in Jax.

What kinda truck do you have. In my old 2006 Powerstroke we had a edge chip in it with airraid with 5in exhaust and every time we pulled the buggy it would blow a head gasket. Now in my 08 Chevy 2500hd I have an edge piggybacked with a bully dog with dual 4in exhaust and intake and it will scream but it still don't like the buggy. If you have an 08 ford or chevy you have to have an exhaust to chip it with all the new emission stuff.

Edge with attitude and juice, intake, ceramic turbo, 5 in turbo back exhaust, bigger injectors, boost pump, propane and methanol injection, upgraded allison trans. Alll the power I could want and more!

That is why the 6 leter is nick named the 6 leaker. When you turn those motors up they have a habbit of pissing coolant out between the block and the heads under heavy boost. When you let out of it the head O-rings will re seal. The best powerstroke motor hands down is the 7.3 if you go with a Ford.

Mine has a superchip, pipe, exhaust, and is stuck on the mid range setting due to some scum bag who stole the programmer out of my truck..7.3 I get 15mpg pulling the boat..nothing like black smoke into a convertible who cut you off sitting next to you at the light.

LLY Duramax. Superchips stacked with a Edge Juice w/attitude. 4" exhaust and banks cold air induction.

Mileage showed a 6 to 7 mpg increase watching truck computer. Figuring gallons vs odometer, maybe a 1 mpg increase. Get 8-10 mpg pulling.

I don't think the version of the Edge Juice w/attitude I have manipulates timing.

What crowhater says about the 6.0 leaking anti-freeze is what I hear from my buddies that have programmed and worked the 6.0 litre powerstroke.
I had a 7.3 litre powerstroke before the GMC duramax. Ford OK. GMC way nice ride and motor seems ok.

I Don't think my Duramax will pull with a Dodge. Still the Duramax with LTX's is an awesome ride.

Thanks for all the input.. The truck is a 99 Chevrolet 2500 crew cab 4x4 with a 350 & auto trans. The real problem I have is I lifted it 6" and put 35" Tires on it so now when I pull the boat it likes to down shift a lot. I really need it to adjust the tire size and maybe some shift points so the tow is not as hard on the trans.. (up and down, up and down..) I see both have the same features I just wanted to make sure one was not hands down better than the other.

I am guessing the "Edge" is another programmer maker?? I will have to check that out as well..
THANKS!!!

Smuggler-
I saw what you are up against. Would changing axle ratio's do you way more good and be approx same price as programmer?

On a gas rig, I wonder if you would be truly dissapointed after sinking money into a programmer.

i have a ford 6.0 power stroke ,i have a bullydog power pup down loader,i like the ease of it you just plug into power port under steering wheel , you can adjust with down loader or get in cab monitor,it has a power range of 75 to 130 extra horse power.i pull a 25 ft 5th wheel and get 12 to 14 mile per gallon depending on how traffic is.19 to 20 when not pulling, you can even try before you buy it,same down loader will work in ford ,chevy, or dodge. they make one for gas models i have heard they dont really make that big of a diffrence.i have heard of people have problems with 6.0, i have 145000 miles and have done nothing but chage oil on mine

HEY! SMUGGLERS BLUES DROP TIRE SIZE & OR GEAR #& KEEP THAT CHEVY OUT OF O/D YOU,LL MAKE MORE RPM,S BUT YOU,LL BURN LESS GAS IT,S JUST LIKE YOUR GEAR BOX ON YOUR AIRBOAT GAS TRUCK,S DONT GET ALOT OUT OF CHIP FOR THE MONEY!

I have a 2008 Silverado with the 6.0, 373 gears and a 6 speed automatic stock tires, I was gettin about 8 miles to a gallon when pulling my 36 ft keystone camper after using the hypertec programmer on the lowest setting I get about 14 miles to a gallon while pulling the camper, About 20mpg pulling my 2006 14 Big O, about 23 around town, I love the thing. I bought mine at Procompnow.com and I paid 380 for it. It also reads and clears trouble codes and you can calibrate you speed sen. for bigger tires.

In my 08 chevy chiped and with an exhaust granite it has a 8in lift with 35s it gets about 10 around town 4 mpg pulling the buggy. It will test your truck. Never seen a buggy or camper strain one as hard as a buggy.
