re: regaining oil pressure !

the problem man is back again ! the oil pan on my caddy 500 developed a pin hole leak on the side actually it's been there since I bought the thing, anyway in order to drop the oil pan so I could get it welded up , I had to take the fuel pump off and the oil pump and filter off in order to get enough clearence to take the pan off, after accomplishing the whole ordeal and putting every thing back togather and putting oil back in to the engine oil pan , I cranked it over and it started just fine "BUT" I've got no oil pressure !! I shut it down right away and here I am searching for your input again ! could the oil pump need to be primed ? I filled up the new oil filter with oil !! thanks fellas !!

a Cadillac oil pump is very sensitive to gasket thickness. MUST be between .006 and .008. I always filled mine with vasoline by hand, put it on and fired the engine IF I didnt have a primer which i wold up making from an old distributor. MTScadparts.com has the correct oil pump gasket.

Yep your gonna have to prime the pump.. It must be because the pump is so far from the actual pick up, that it looses its prime easily. :dontknow:
You can rent that primmer tool from Autozone for free!! They make you put like $25 down as a deposit but you get it back when you return it.

Hope you haven't knocked the pick up off or cracked it. Charles taught me the vasoling trick works great. Cad oil pumps suck.

My wife's grandad owned the first Cad dealership in the midwest, he made lots of money, and now I know why......Caddy's seem to have their own set of problems, and I can only imagine the service center stayed pretty busy with all these lil problems. He even sold one to JFK from what I heard.....wonder if KY jell works

Thank you glades cat for your reply to my question about oil pressure ! now my question is where do you place the screw driver drill you talked about ?

Check the gauge. I was working on a caddy boat last week and the sending unit went bad. One minute I had 40 psi idling the next time I cranked it there was none. I put a manual gauge on it and it works get. I'm not saying its the problem you have but it never hurts to check. You can short out the gauge and see if the needle moves. Then you can remove the sending unit and blow air in the hole and check the end with an ohhm meter.
