I need some help from the aircraft guys.
I have a lycoming 6 cyl O-540 Parallel Valve I want to sell that is sitting on the shelf.
It has been sitting for at least 6 years.
The ID plate is missing so it could be a 235 or a 250 Not sure.
The engine went through hurricane Ike and will most likely have some salt water damage.
I assume it is locked up and want to sell it as is.
Includes Dual Mags, Alt, Starter, Carburator, everything that is on the motor.
I did see the dipstick tube is cracked and broken and one of the tubes going to the bottom exh port has a hole.
What is a fair price as is? Or is it better as a boat anchor?

core price is what you will be able to get. a good core 540 for airboat use right now is going for 2500 to 4500 depending on condition and what acc it has. but if you want to scrap ill be more then happy to come and get it for scrap.

I just hand sanded the valve covers and shot a little primer on it to see what it would look like, but here is what the engine looks like

well that looks worse than expected the oil screen being off let water into the oil passage and probably the crank is now rusted you can see wear the vernathem is rusted inside the the oil screen pad. your looking at a 1500 motor if you can get more get it but thats all i would pay. you need to try to see if you can get some marvel mystery oil in the top of the cylinders and try to get it to rotote if you can then its still worth soemthing. im interested in it let me know what your gonna do.

thems some great engines, but id have to look inside that one, put it on the classified bet it want last long at 25oo

I just went and pulled the spark plugs and they do not look all rusted up like it was full of salt water. The engine does not appear to have been submerged. It would be covered in rust.

if ya would bring it to florida i will trade ya a nice little 11 foot fiberglass hull newer 290 engine new prop. needs little work to be turnkey. nice trailer.

Ok, so it didnt sell yet so I took of a valve cover and it looked good. Then I unscrewed the oil dip stick tube and looked with a flash lights and can't see any corrosion so today I am going to buy some tools off the snap-on truck so I can pull a jug and look inside better. I filled everything up with Diesel before leaving yesterday and plan on letting it soak all day to see if it breaks loose before pulling a jug tomorrow.

Anyone else have any better ideas. I'm all ears.

After, i get it to turn over I expect it will go up in value to several people. Right?

Sounds good, if it dont turn easy after soaking, with the oil screen housing off, (oil cooler lines open too), the salt water may have run into oil pump, I would pull the accessory housing off first and check that. JMHO

Thats looks like a narrow deck, ya will need lycoming wrenches to pull cylinder.

Yep, price is slowly increasing.
