CALLING ALL AIRBOATERS! MUST EMAIL BY 11/25

Who cares what the guy that set up and conned our folks into supporting the big mistake called Big Cypress many years ago says today about Headwaters anyway.

Headwaters is the same style big mistake and so is his snake oil to sell it. Maybe he should go peddle same old snake oil to the pythons in the Glades.

This guys parents were developers of early Florida. He's a reformed wh-re for his families impacts to South Florida at our expense.

What he needs to do is go count his parents money he spends and be silent.

Lagscrew him.

OVERSIGHT HEARING ON:

* "Florida Everglades Restoration: What are the Priorities?"

WITNESSES AND TESTIMONY:

Panel I

The Honorable Jo-Ellen Darcy
Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works)
Department of Defense

Rachel Jacobson
Acting Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife and Parks
Department of the Interior

Panel II

The Honorable William P. Horn
Past Member, National Academy of Science’s
Committee on Independent Scientific Review of Everglades Restoration Progress

The Honorable Rick Dantzler
Co-Chairman
Northern Everglades Alliance

Eric Draper
Executive Director
Audubon of Florida

Bishop Wright, Jr.
President
Florida Airboat Association

Jorge P. Gutierrez, Jr.
President
Everglades Coordinating Council

BACKGROUND:

The hearing will examine the impacts of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, a component of the Water Resources Development Act. In 2000, Congress enacted the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan as a component of the Water Resources Development Act, committing to spend at least $13.5 billion for the restoration of the Florida Everglades. To date, none of the 68 projects of the Comprehensive Restoration Plan are completed. Despite the fact that the Fish and Wildlife Service has an operations and maintenance backlog in excess of $3.4 billion, they plan to acquire 150,000 acres of land in Central Florida for inclusion within the National Wildlife Refuge System at a cost of more than $700 million. The focus of the hearing is to examine how the 150,000 acres acquired will contribute to the overall goal of restoring the Florida Everglades, how the Service intends to pay for the 150,000 acres it intends to acquire through fee titles and conservation easements, what assurances they will provide in terms of public access and wildlife dependent recreation within the refuge and conservation area, and how the four locally affected Florida counties will be compensated for lost tax revenues.

Charlie
Good morning
It has been a good while since I asked you what is meant by "step down" planning. This statement is in the current draft EA for the Headwaters NWR.

Some have suggested that this means the Headwaters NWR will open with three days of deer hunting, then step down each year to no hunting.

I have never seen the "step down" planning process in action nor even know what this planning process is about.

Please explain what the "step down" planning process is and why it call by that name.

The TNC person working on the Headwaters has informed me that TNC also asked about this item.

Good Morning,
I also would like to know what is a "step down planning/management plan
and what will it accomplish to improve sporting public access?
A search on the web for Step Down - Refuge Management Plans - Search.... info - FYI..
To speed up your Google search use: (Ctrl F) and type in (step-down refuge plans)

Endangered Species Act Section 7 Consultation Back to Top We comply with section 7 of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (16 U.S.C. 1531 et seq.), when developing Comprehensive Conservation Plans (CCPs) and step-down management plans (which would include hunting and/or fishing plans) for public use of refuges, and prior to implementing any new or revised public recreation program on a refuge as identified in 50 CFR 26.32. We have completed section 7 consultation on each of the affected refuges.Show citation box
Now we know why Charlie did not want to explain what Step Down planning is, involves and how it plays into the Endangered Species Act. Further how the purposes of the Headwaters coupled with the Step Down Planning process and Endangered Species Act will never allow hunting even if the USFWS/FWC want to allow it the same environmental groups now suing to stop hunting in the BICY Addition lands will also sue to stop it on the Headwaters NWR. Thanks

Gladesman: Can you copy and paste the links I don't see them in your post, nor do the highlighted words a hyperlink to the site where the video will be posted live.

Thanks in advance,
LIL Maddog

Thankfully Ruagatr has supplied the most direct link http://naturalresources.house.gov/Live/ which I forgot to include.

I will correct the other post just in case.

Here is a link http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2011/nov/03/environmentalists-sports-enthusiasts-debate-of/ to a Naples News story on the Headwaters Oversight Hearing we caused in Washington D.C. yesterday.

Some long comments but a good read anyway.

The photo should be blown up and framed then pit in a Gladesmen historical facility so as to memorialize the event.

Don't stop now folks .... every message counts! This is a Federal control grab, pure and simple, not a legitimate conservation issue at all. If the lands in question should ever be given over to Federsl control, they will be lost forever to the rest of us.

Well put Olf. Comments count and don't anyone ever forget it. Comments had a lot with getting this Oversight hearing called.

On another it might be nice if our Folks Jorge Gutierrez and Bishop Wright got some public thanks on this site for taking time out of their life to go Congress and testify before the Sub Committee concerning that bad idea called Headwaters.

These 2 and other attendees put a lot of lead into it.

Some Congressmen deserve our thank you's also:

Emailing these staff folks will get the message through -

Congressman David Rivera from Miami [email protected]
[email protected]

Congressman John Fleming - Louisiana https://flemingforms.house.gov/Contact/ContactForm.htm Fill out the form and Thank him for caring

Congressman Steve Southerland from Panamn City, Fl [email protected]

.

I assume at mt risk that you are talking about Fleming from Louisiana.

All I know is I can access his web sites message box from Fla. and I am not in his State.

For the others folks to be thanked I plugged their email addresses into an email from my email account and sent from my account and not the pop up that appears if you clik the links other directly.

Hopefully NPR won't try as enviros do to paint us as only hunters assuming we care about nothing else such our Nation as a whole (e.g. lagscrewing Congress and blowing $700,000,000 on Headwaters) as America goes financially belly up.

A WMFE NPR reporter that I have been speaking with recently on Headwaters just let me know they will be broadcasting another radio show on Headwaters including some taped segments (Joe Browder) of the bus ride back from Big Cypress during the journalists conference in Miami recently.Either of these 2 links below should get us there to listen to it.

Would suggest all interested parties to listen live if possible or watch later from WFME archives.
