Real Time Thrust Tests with Complete Boats

Some of those participating were not able to weigh there boats at the time. Once I've recieved the few remaining numbers, I will again publish charts showing the Thrust to Weight Ratio (Coefficent) for both WOT and Cruise settings.....

And more to come after that....

Can you also provide prop length? Also thanks for all of the hard work.

Hey anvil.when you did the 1500 pounds of thrust.was that also the time to 2 blade S out thrust yours.or was that after you pitched more.just curious.
I dont remember the double super wide except when i was looking at the back of it at the end of 400 ft behind swampdragsters ride boat and i was in my step hull same weekend you were looking at the back of my step hull at 400 ft. differerent boat. I let him jump me out of the hole i was sure i could run that nitrus breathing monster down. even up I pulled him about a boat and a half. lots of fun.

I plan to retest some time in the near future. I own the 427mas 602hp I was turning between 4900 and 5000 pitched at a full three. I hate to mess with the set up because i am crusing in still water at 2100 to 2200 wind and chop at 2700 the boat is very light and dosent need every thing the motor has to offer to move efficently. I have a hundred hp still on the table this is same set up pitched lower that blew a 1575 on the same equipment we just tested on a year ago. 1309 lbs is plenty to move this boat any where I want to go and it saves on gas and motor wear. The idea was to run the boats as we run them every weekend. I was as surprized as the rest of you when it appeared so low in the test. I have run black mud and lots of short green grass loaded to the max with set up as is with not a problem. I have 1000 rpm and a hundred hp to add should be interesting. The motor is making almost double the thrust of the aircraft boats as it is set up.

Anvil,

Do you have any information on how much your fuel mileage improved when you lowered your cruise RPMs? I was thinking about trying the same with mine. I was just wondering if you had any lessons learned before I did this. Thanks.

I dont have any exact numbers but the boat is very efficent. I am just guessing I can run around lake george loaded up. juniper and salt run then back to start on the north end on about 10 to 12 gallons. This is running easy and not much dry running. I was burning close to 18 gal to make the same distance before I added the pitch. Out of curiosity I am going to change the pitch and run it again next month. Dan the man and Garret were with me when the boat made 1575 using the same equipment. The engine and prop were still in my gto hull. I am running the 16 ft ultra light jimmy white with the recently added red poly now. I made some changes to the rigging and improved the air flow quite a bit. The boat dosent struggle to move in almost any situation. I have made the run a couple of times with out of town friends with the same result. I will keep you posted the boat is a work in progress. Jim Allen and Randy have spoiled me with the west coast fishing. The boat is in the shop getting walk boards added as we speak.

Test boat B is 78"
Test boat E is 80"
The rest of the Rs are 82.
The Q is 74"
The NGH is 72"
The WW is 74"
The woody is 72"

This is very interesting data. So this is the data for the initial setups. Is there any more data after the tweaks were done to several of the boats? Have any conclusions been derived from the data or is more testing needed? Again thanks for all of the work done on this testing.

A 74 inch Water Walker Signature is too long for a gpu, not enough pitch to make it work. That prop should be used for about 280 to 320 HP. Try a short hub to get 70 inch and you will see the differance.
Thanks, Chuck

Both!

We have additional information for Boat H. We tested 3 props on this boat.

changed the Saber for an R blade on the 496.

changed timing and Pitch on the "351W"

changed the pitch on the 383

changed pitch on the 6.2 W/T

Changed the pitch on the 540

More info in a few days.

We have lots of testing left to do. We are really curious about reduction ratios and have the ability to do some box swapping with several of the boats. This is very time consuming and I expect it to be a never ending project! We will continue to post anything we discover. Part of our future changes and testing will be swapping motors on 3 of the boats. Plans are to introduce a new motor on one of the boats. Expect this to be complete in about 3 weeks.

We also have more prop work to do but the RPM and ratio changes have caught our interest more than the prop changes. However, we would really like to test a Sensenich S blade vs. the R. We haven't had access to an S and when we do, testing will take place! We have posted the facts and will likely share some opinions before this is all over.

We really appreciate all the positive comments, constructive criticism, PM's and your patience with data distribution!

I would really like to see the 0540 boat try the Q blade out. Sence there's been a lot of talk on here about the Q pushing better than the NGH and the NGH pushing better than the Q. Really like to see which one makes more thrust. I've run both and have a 3 blade NGH on a 0540

roxie i talked to dan the man today he hopes to be able to supply the sw blades for testing. Hear poobought bought a new motor super cheap better watch out he is going to knock you off the top of the thrust test. Just kidding i will be ready to retest in a couple of weeks. Mas on the rise. I was realy surprised at the power to weight ratio in Todds boat. ac rules once again. Just proves the point you dont have to spend a bunch of money to get a great boat. I wonder how much thrust the new walk boards and paint will make. Mr Jimmy is repairing the mess i made be back in action soon.

i have a 14x8 alumitech with a self built ls1 with a 2.38 and i swing it around 5500+ i would love to put it on the tester if u are interested to give some higher prop rpm numbers with a ls. and am willing to change it all around. dont mind driving my boat up to the trailer if interested pm me please

Chuck, for now the next test done will be two of the same boats. One with a motor change and the other with a motor, ratio and prop change. We will also be doing some more prop changing on some of the AC boats. We now have some plates to try some Sabers on the AC boats.

It would also be interesting to see how the R and the Water Walker oops I mean Brand X compare. Makes sense to also compare an old R without the I beam and a new R with the I beam. Thanks.
