Glad you found some good reds Barhopper. I think I chatted with y’all for a few minutes at Captain Coves. I would have introduced myself had I known it was you. Feel a bit silly telling you how good the redfishing has been. If anyone would know how good it is would have been y’all. Keep up the good work bud.

Looks like you guys have been wearin them out lately. We finally got to pull off a trip today, with this hard east wind she was a low one. We got our Trout on plugs and caught quite a few big reds, fishing is still top notch! Fitnast is that just a friend that looks like Mark Nichols or is that the Man?

Man y’all are on them nice fishing. Andy that’s actually Skip Nielsen. He is a legend in the world of fishing and has been a guide out of Bud and Mary’s in Islamorada since 1970. He helped pioneer the way a lot of the fishing gets done down there. I was def a bit nervous to fish with him but it worked out pretty good and we had a nice day. Super great guy and his wife Cyd is An incredible angler.
Fished Monday Tuesday and Thursday this week. On Monday we caughtvabout 30 reds with about 15 being upperslot and a few trout. Tuesday I fished pretty far north and went in two creeks I have never been before. First creek we struck out. The second creek which had more rock and was much shallower had lots of reds in it abd a nice hole in the back. We caught about 10 nice reds and 5 really nice trout. Today I decided to pop to the bars just out front and see if the trout have shown yet with this warming trend. Hit 4 spots and caught them every cast pretty much at all 4 stops. I Left the reds alone today, but had a great morning trout trip. Lots of warming coming should scatter the reds and have a big push of trout come in along with some nice pompano next week on the new moon.

I Fish from power plant to turtle bay pretty much, I will be fishing my winter boat for another 3 or 4 weeks for reds and trout pretty much. Will keep yall updated with the fishing. Then I switch to my other boat and my tarpon, snook and drum season goes from mid march till mid October. I had a blast fishing this winter and enjoyed everyones input here. it was a Pretty solid bite most all winter long

fitnast are you a full-time guide in that area?
I’m not a full time guide anymore. I work 3 12 hour days in accounting and finance. I was a guide full time from 2002 until 2015. Got burnt on it. Now I can still take a few of my regulars but I’m enjoying much more fun fishing these days. This week was proof to me that the creek fishing is def over. Monday hit a creek mouth and the fish were fired up on topwater. Caught a bunch of snook and reds. Popped out for a limit of trout and 1 pompano after. Tuesday just went trout fishing and we grinded our a limit with lots of shorts and caught some huge jacks on the bars. Wednesday morning hit my favorite winter hole and only caught five cob reds on the neg low. Moved to 4 others holes that were good all winter and only caught 1 more red. Popped out and got a limit of trout and found a huge school of big black drum. Thursday hit a creek mouth and caught one red, popped out front and caught about 7 or 8 nice ones. Then really had to work hard for a limit of trout, found big drum school again and also caught two pompano. Had to work hard all week to stay on the fish but the pattern has completely changed.

Well I’m with fitnast, I believe the winter bite is over. We could scrounge up our limit of reds but it’s tuff, hardly any trout and they were shorts. Guess it’s time to park the airboat and hop in the Hewes. I’ll catch up with you guys in the fall

Hope you get on them good in the hewes Mr Andy. Fished Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Monday the bite was on fire with a good low. I fished with Leiza who is from CCA Star redfish tournament director. We hammered the big reds and slot snook in a good trench near a creek mouth. 20 or more snook and close to 30 good reds. Then popped out front and hammered the trout and pompano. Then on the way in we found a nice group of Tarpon and hooked a 100 pounder that broke us off. Tuesday did a quick half day trout trip. Hit a limit on just a few stops, also caught some small reds and snook. Wednesday caught 12 reds and popped out front to get back on that big school of drum. We hammered on them for a while catching several pushing 60 lbs. then a big school of monster reds pushed up on us and Miss Susan hooked up a giant. This red was every bit of 45-50 inches and over 30lbs. About 25 minutes later pulled the hook so we didn’t get a pic but an incredible sight to see none the less. Was an incredible week to be in the gulf with great fishing and beautiful weather.

Same story played out this week with good reds, slot snook, huge drum, easy trout limits and big Tarpon pushing in. Tuesday managed a grand slam with a 30 inch red, 29 inch snook, 25 inch trout 45 lb drum and tarpon at around 180-200 pounds. We Have cooler weather coming so it may push a few more reds back near creek mouths. Have one more week left in winter boat than I will swap out and leave y’all alone till October.

:angry5: Decent 25” about 2.5 weeks ago. Lots of fish moving but had to cut it short. Oil leak... Looking forward to some cooler weather and easy pickens.
Went yesterday. The water is still hot and it’s dirty. Caught a nice slot in one of my “fall” spots and another small slot around an island. The small was was full of small crabs. All in all not an impressive day on the water. Caught a few trout. Did catch a trophy gaff top (sail cat) on a cork with a small pinfish. I was excited until I saw it. A few drag burning runs. Gotta get better can’t be a lot worse.
